2024 / 09 / 19 to 20. Heart & Hands: Embedding Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) Into Your Practice

About the event

In this workshop, we’re going to teach you how to do brief and powerful ACT-based therapy and coaching interventions, and we like to think that this training will be relevant to those working across all employment sectors.

You’ll firstly be introduced to the heart of the ACT model. Often, in eagerness, practitioners want to jump straight into the concrete tools that are available to them when using the ACT model, but from our perspective, the heart of ACT is the most important part of it, and an essential premise from which to build intervention.

Once the heart of ACT is covered, we’re going to teach you, through a useful supervision model, the hands of ACT. Specifically, we’re going to teach you how to use ACT when working with people in a one-to-one setting, via a conceptualization tool called The Matrix.

The Matrix is great at providing us, as practitioners, with a starting place; however, we need more than The Matrix to be able to work effectively with people. For example, if when using the Matrix, you work out that the person in front of you needs help with Values Clarification, then what can you do to get at that process? In other words, you’ll need to learn some concrete techniques that you can draw upon in therapeutic conversation that help you to target ACT relevant processes.

Our workshop will give you these things through psychoeducation, experiential exercises, case studies and role plays, so that as soon as you leave, you’ll be in place where you can begin to use the ACT model in your work.

Who’s it for?

Beginners – If you know nothing about ACT, then this workshop will be pitched at a level that will allow you to learn about the model, and to learn how to use it.

Intermediate – If you know your ACT pretty well, then this workshop will introduce you to the model in a different way, and support your therapeutic work by giving you concrete tools to take away.
