Tell us a bit about yourself

Conor McCloskey

I am currently a PhD student in University College Dublin where I am supervised by Professor Louise McHugh, where I previously completed my undergraduate degree.

My current research explores how rule-following can make us miss the important things that go on around us, but I am also interested in a range of topics including the history of psychology and the psychology of religion.

I work as a lecturer in psychology in Dublin Business School.

In my spare time, I enjoy reading, music, and woodcarving. My long term goal is to one day write a complete history of psychology.

What do you do?

1

As a PhD candidate, my role can be slightly chaotic: my days are spent commuting, reading, designing experiments, writing, teaching, and sharing what I find with my colleagues.

2

At the time of writing this, I have completed two out of my three experiments for my thesis.

3

As a lecturer, I teach a range of modules on the Undergraduate and Higher Diploma courses. Prior to this role I worked as a teaching assistant.

Why are you a member of ACBS?

As a member of ACBS, I enjoy being connected to likeminded people, including students with similar interests to myself, as well as more experienced members, who are always happy to offer advice and guidance. I am involved with a number of groups, including the Contextual Philosophy of Science special interest group (SIG), the Relational Frame Theory SIG, and of course, the UK&ROI chapter, which has helped me to connect with students and professionals who live close to me. Being a part of ACBS has also allowed me to attend a range of excellent conferences, trainings, and social events.
